The criminology of evil

The criminology of evil – profiles of killers sentenced to life imprisonment

“The Criminology of Evil” focuses on the perpetrators of murders, persistent criminals, often not very susceptible to positive influence; it follows their fate from arrest to execution of a legally valid life sentence, which, after all, continues day after day, cell after cell, educator after educator. Criminology students talk about extreme evil and the reaction to it, as well as the personal experiences of its perpetrators.

We present a series of case studies – the characteristics of nine life prisoners – of their crime and life after it was committed in prison. Each of the texts published on the website is an autonomous case study. The interesting stories of their lives gives us pause to reflect and ask difficult questions – also taken up by the authors. There is no room for fiction – it’s real life and real criminology: the Criminology of Evil.

The authors of the studies are students of the Institute for Social Prevention and Rehabilitation attending the faculty of the Criminology of Evil. The faculty was financed by the Teaching Innovation Fund of the University of Warsaw and enjoyed great interest among students.

All the studies – nine case studies – together with experts’ and practitioners’ reflections on the most severe punishment, diagnosis of killers and life imprisonment, will be published in a book by the University of Warsaw publishing house in 2020.
